Monitoring Control and Surveillance (MCS) in Eastern and Southern Africa
Project Overview:
Nuule Research Consultancy was tasked with assessing the status of Monitoring Control and Surveillance (MCS) systems across shared aquatic ecosystems in the Eastern and Southern regions of Africa. The project focused on identifying the current challenges in combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing, as well as protecting aquatic biodiversity and the environment in these regions.
Key Objectives:
- Evaluate the effectiveness of existing MCS systems in combating IUU fishing.
- Provide recommendations for strengthening these systems to protect biodiversity.
- Ensure that the MCS systems align with international regulations and best practices.
Project Impact:
This project plays a vital role in preserving aquatic biodiversity by addressing illegal fishing practices and promoting sustainable fisheries management. Our recommendations aim to strengthen MCS frameworks in Africa, ensuring the protection of marine ecosystems and the communities that depend on them.
