Nutritional Profiling of Hake By-Products

Project Overview:
NRC was engaged by the World Economic Forum’s Ocean Action Agenda to conduct a detailed nutritional profiling of hake by-products, including heads, livers, and gonads. The goal of this project was to assess the nutritional value of these by-products and explore opportunities for their use in food production, reducing waste and adding value to marine resources.

Key Objectives:

  • Analyze the nutritional composition of hake by-products.
  • Provide recommendations for the sustainable use of these by-products in food production.
  • Identify potential markets and applications for these nutrient-rich by-products.

Project Impact:
The findings from this project highlighted the untapped potential of marine by-products, offering new opportunities for the sustainable use of hake in the food industry. By reducing waste and promoting value-added products, this project supports the global movement toward sustainable fisheries and food systems.
